Integration with Microsoft Word
Q: How do I update my Aligned Elements Client?
A: When a new version of Aligned Elements is available, you will automatically be prompted when you start AE. You can also go to our Upgrade Center and select the "Update/Launch" link to download and install the latest version Aligned Elements.
Q: The installation stops with an error about Visual Studio Tools.

You need to reinstall Visual Studio Tools For Office. VSTO 2005 SE can be downloaded here. When you have downloaded and installed VSTO, then repeat the installation of Aligned Elements.
Q: The installation stops with an error about stdole.dll.

A: Do the following:
- Open a file explorer and navigate to the path: c:\<program files>\Microsoft.Net\Primary Interop Assemblies\. You should be able to locate the stdole.dll file here. If it is not there you can try to find it on another computer in the same location.
- In a second file explorer, navigate to the pathe c:\Windows\assembly. Drag and drop the stdole.dll file into this window.
- Retry the installation.
Q: The installation stops with the following Error Message.

You will need to rerun Office setup to install .NET programmability support.
Do the following:
Open Add/Remove programs in control panel (Programs)
Select Microsoft Office 2003 Professional and click "Modify" or “Repair” (not uninstall)
Select Add/Remove Features for Word and click "Next".
Select to install “.NET Programmability Support for Word” as displayed in the screen shot below.

Click Update to install this feature. Then redo the installation of Aligned Elements.
Q: I get a message that my license file can not be validated and that I shall restore the internet connection. But I DO have connection to the internet. What is wrong?
A: It seems like Aligned Elements cannot communicate with neither the license server nor the internet. This could happen if the order of your network adapters is compromised. Check the order of your network adapters and be particularly attentive to network adapters that are invalid or no longer have a corresponding hardware component.
Q: Aligned Elements crashes when I try to upload the license file. Why?
A: Aligned Elements tries to copy the license file into the AE working directory. It might be the case that the current user does not have the permission to copy files into the workding directory.
Q: How do I find the version number of my Aligned Elements Client?
A: Open you Aligned Elements client and select Project -> About...
Q: What are the installation requirements for Aligned Elements?
A: You can find information about the installation requirements on the Aligned Elements Product page.
Q: Where can I find the Aligned Elements User Manual?
A: You can download the current Aligned Elements User Manual here.
Q: Where is Aligned Elements installed on my computer?
A: Aligned Elements uses ClickOnce for deployment. The application is installed under <document & settings>\<your user>\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\.
Q: Why doesn't Aligned Elements find my SQL Server on the network?
A: Type the server and instance name manually in the server combo box (e.g. <MyServerName>\SQLEXPRESS) and press return (Note! Observe that the slash is a backslash, not a front slash!). If you now get connected to your server, the problem might lie in firewall settings on either the client or the server side. See the AE User Manual section 6.6.3 for details.
Q: Why does my project load freeze/hang?
A: If your network is using a Proxy, make sure that the Aligned License Server (IP: 62.12.154.66:80) is excluded from caching and blockage. Aligned Elements needs both incoming and outgoing access to the License Server.
Q: I get a message like the one below right after the Primo PDF component is installed. When I click View Details... there is a reference to the error code: (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800736B3)

A: Try to perform the following steps to resolve the problem:
1) Go to C:\Documents and Settings\(your account name)\Local Settings\
2) Rename or move to a different location the Apps folder
3) Try installing the application
4) Note that this solution might affect other ClickOnce programs if you have any. To restore previous state if desired, move the Apps folder to where it was.
Q: When I restore a database I get the following message:"The SQL Server Service Broker for the current database is not enabled, and as a result query notifications are not supported." What should I do?
A: Open SQL Server Studio Manager and post the following two queries:
ALTER DATABASE "<the database name>" SET NEW_BROKER WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE;
and then
ALTER DATABASE "<the database name>" SET ENABLE_BROKER;
Q: When I open the project I get the following message: "InitSubscription failed. Exception: Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding."
A: Open SQL Server Studio Manager and post the following two queries:
ALTER DATABASE "<the database name>" SET NEW_BROKER WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE;
and then
ALTER DATABASE "<the database name>" SET ENABLE_BROKER;
Q: I am using Vista/Windows 7 and have installed Aligned Elements but I cannot create offline databases. Why?
A: Due to windows security restrictions Aligned Elements cannot create the necessary folders for the offline databases. Try to manually create the path "C:/AlignedElements/Offline" and try again.
Q: How do I log in when all my administrator users have been locked out due to faulty logins?
A: Contact Aligned Support on support@aligned.ch.
Q: Why can't I mail out review invitations?
A: Your mail settings are probably not configured. Define your project's mail server parameters under Project->Project Settings. See the AE User Manual section 6.2 for details. Furthermore, you have to set the email address for each user. See the AE User Manual section 6.1 for details.
Q: Can I configure AE so that only invitees are to access a review?
A: No, currently all users that have access permissions to the document object type "Review" can access the review. See the AE User Manual section 6.1 for details.
Integration with Microsoft Word
Q: I use Office 2007. When I open a word document I get an error message claiming that the customization could not be copied due to security issues. What is wrong?
A: If it is the case that your windows user name contains a blank space (like "Peter Stein"), then Aligned Elements is not able to copy the customizations correctly. We are working on a solution for this problem.
Q: I use Office 2007. How do I get rid of the Security Alert I get each time I open a Word Document with Aligned Elements?
A: You need to define the AE application directory as “Trusted Location”. If you hold the mouse over the file path string in the dialog "Security Alert" the Aligned Elements application directory is displayed. Click “Open the Trust Center” in the dialog (down to the left) and added the application path as trusted location and add the option “Trust all sub folders”.
Q: When I insert failure modes or other table-like objects into Word, the application hangs. Why?
A: You are probably using Word 2003 Professional without Service Pack. You must install Service Pack 1 or higher.
Q: The Action Pane does not display in my Word Integration. What have I done wrong?
There are three possible reasons: a) the word templates are corrupt or b) the Action Pane is hidden by Word but accessible or c) it is inaccessible all together. Click Ctrl-F1 in word (Word 2003) to attempt access the general task pane and see if you can find the Action Pane in the drop down list.
If you cannot see it, it might also be the case that the Action Pane Active X component is blocked on your computer. Check for the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{5f61f809-422a-4152-91f5-9ec1b935efd7}
If you find it, delete it and start Aligned Elements again. This time the Action Pane should be accessible in Word.
If that also fails, then send us the logfiles and we'll check if the templates are corrupt.
Q: When I insert Failure Modes I get the following error message:
"WordDocument1.ThisDocument - Failed to add the object <Wrong acces rights or sharing problems>"
" System.InvalidCastException: Unable to cast COM object of type \'MSScriptControl.ScriptControlClass\' to interface type \'MSScriptControl.IScriptControl\'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with IID \'{0E59F1D3-1FBE-11D0-8FF2-00A0D10038BC}\' failed due to the following error: Error loading type library/DLL. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80029C4A (TYPE_E_CANTLOADLIBRARY))."?
You need to regeister the MSScript.ocx component. Click Start -> Run... and enter the text 'regsrv32 msscript.ocx' and click Enter.
Q: When I insert Document Objects in Word I get this Converion dialog (see below). How do I get rid of it?

A: IN MS Word, open the menu Item Tools -> Options ans delect the Tab Page called "General".
Deselct the 5th option called "Confirm conversion at Open" and try again.

Q: Whenever I close a Word document, I get question about saving Normal.dot. This is really annoying.
A: Do the following:
- Make sure that no Word instances are running
- Start Regedit, (Start->Run->Regedit <enter>)
- Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Word\Addins
- If there are any Add In entries listed then set the LoadBehaviour entry to 0 (instead of 3) for the first Add In
- Start Aligned Elements and Word and check if you still have the Normal.dot problem.
- If you still have the problem, set the LoadBehavior entry back to 3 and try the next Add In in the list.
Q: When I drop objects in Word, the document is left blank even though the application says that they have been inserted. Why?
A: This is caused by the application "WinZip email companion V2". You either have to uninstall it or install the version 1 of the application.
Q: Can I filter out the requirements/specifications that have not been inserted in my PRD/SRS Word Document?
A: Yes, you can. Select "Display Inconsistencies" for the objects you want to check and filter on the Inconsistency called "Document Object Not In File".
Q: How can I import existing requirements/specifications from a Word Document?
A: See AE User Manual section 4.10 for details.
Q: Can I print an old revision of a Test Case?
A: Yes, you can. Create a new File Object and attach a blank Word Document. Select the Test Case (or any Document Object) you want to insert and use the "Insert Frozen Objects" tool to specify which revision of the object you want to insert. When the object has been inserted you can use Word's normal print-out mechanism to it print out.
Q: How can I Add a new row in the Use Case/Test Case?
A: Click Ctrl-Ins or right-click to get the grid context menu and select "Add Row".
Q: Is there a way to change the revision number to a revision letter?
A: No, there is not.
